"I had the opportunity to take the LEGUANO BEAT into fairly extreme conditions. They served me brilliantly on a full-day trek through tropical jungle. It started innocently enough, but over time the terrain turned into a muddy path full of slippery roots, with plenty of ascents and descents. Fortunately, the Leguanos didn't let me down. In such extreme conditions, any shoes will slip, but thanks to the thin sole I knew exactly what terrain I had underfoot and how to adjust my body weight distribution to avoid slipping. Walking on wet roots was much more comfortable and, crucially, safer than in conventional shoes. I could grip the roots to a certain extent with my toes and maintain better stability. In the end, I came off best in the whole group and wasn't covered in mud from head to toe like some expedition members. On the trek we eventually had to wade through a river, and here another advantage of my barefoot shoes became apparent. We all had completely soaked shoes, but the Leguanos dried the fastest."

How to care for your shoes

• wipe the shoes with a damp cloth and dry
• machine washable on a gentle cycle up to 30°C
• use mild detergent, no fabric softener
• do not spin-dry or tumble dry
• to increase durability, treat your shoes regularly with waterproofing spray
• with proper care, your barefoot shoes will last a long time
