I’ve been wearing barefoot shoes for about 6 years now, and this year I chose the LEGUANO GO Black as my summer barefoot shoes — and I have to say they pleasantly surprised me. They’re extremely light, breathable and comfortable even for longer wear. 

Main pros:

  • They’re really very light — I can barely feel them on my feet
  • They ventilate brilliantly — ideal for summer, my feet don’t sweat in them at all
  • Flexible and comfortable — they adapt to your foot and don’t restrict movement
  • They fit well — nothing pinches, nothing rubs; they fit like a glove
  • Simple look — black colour, no stripes, decorations or loud branding, so I can wear them in the city and out in nature

Main cons:

  • Higher purchase price
  • distinctive design, which won’t suit everyone. They work best with a casual or sporty outfit

Key features and technical assessment

LEGUANO GO Black are versatile barefoot shoes, and I have to say they pleasantly surprised me in several ways. From the very first try-on it was clear they’d be very light and flexible — I can hardly feel them on my feet. Thanks to the breathable polyester upper, the shoe ventilates extremely well, which is especially great on hot days. The material also feels nice against bare skin — no chafing, sweating or odour.

Ergonomically, these barefoot shoes are really well designed. They have a thin but very flexible sole that lets you feel the ground underfoot. At the same time, they still offer enough protection from sharp stones or harder surfaces. When you walk, your feet naturally engage and work more — you do need to switch gears a little, slow down and walk more mindfully, but it brings a great sense of freedom and natural movement. I also appreciate the shape and fit — they sit well on a narrower foot, but thanks to the flexibility they’ll adapt to a wider foot too.

I also like the very simple, understated look — they’re completely black, without any decorations, contrasting stripes, loud branding or other distracting elements. That makes them feel universal, so they’re great for walks in nature and perfectly fine for the city as well.

Testing out and about

Most often, I wear them for walks in nature — in the woods, across meadows or in the park. They’ve also proved excellent for regular dog walks. Thanks to the thin sole, I can feel the surface under my feet, but the walk is still comfortable. Uneven ground, small stones and roots aren’t a problem, and the cushioning is sufficient. The shoes stay securely on the foot, don’t slip and don’t restrict movement, which is handy for longer walks and light trails.

I also tested them thoroughly in an urban setting — I wore them on a full-day trip around Prague, where I spent the whole day walking on paving stones, stairs, tarmac and sun-heated pavements. I was surprised by how well they handled it.

Final verdict

I’d recommend the LEGUANO GO Black to anyone looking for comfortable, high-quality barefoot shoes for summer. They’re great for nature and the city, they look good, and they give your feet plenty of freedom. The only downside is the higher price — but if you want to treat yourself to genuinely comfortable shoes, I think they’re worth it.
